Kana observed as Cat smoked a third cigarette at lunch. Their food hadn’t even come yet.

“Little bit on edge, little one?” Kana asked.

Cat glanced at her, then grinned. “Yeah, I guess so,” she said. “Just feeling the need to cut loose a little bit.”

Kana nodded wisely. “You got anything going tonight?”

“Nope.”

“Let’s go out then.”

“Great!” Cat said, smiling.

Kana didn’t go out often, and hadn’t changed that practice while with Cat.

“What are the odds of getting you to go to The Flame?” Cat asked, giving her a sidelong look.

“Why?” Kana asked, narrowing her eyes.

Cat shrugged. “I’m in the mood to dance tonight, not fight.”

Kana laughed. Whenever they went to Bourbon Street, Kana was consistently flirted with, hit on, eyed, and generally pawed. Kana knew most of the women that were regulars at the club, so they all felt comfortable flirting with her. Kana also had a few ex-girlfriends that were often at Bourbon Street, and Cat had had one too many run-ins with the exes.

Things had become physical a few times. Kana had stepped in once, and Cat had taken care of it herself otherwise. Cat zealously guarded her relationship with Kana, more so than she had with any other woman. But she was always possessive about people she was actually with. She felt others should respect that and not interfere, unless invited to do so.

“Fine, we’ll go to The Flame then,” Kana conceded.

“Thank you,” Cat said, her look not so conciliatory.

Kana grinned unrepentantly.
